Minimum price is a cost floor
The calculator finds the price that meets your target if you make the number of sales entered. It cannot tell you whether buyers will accept that price. Test an offer against the problem it solves, then check whether the resulting price and a conservative sales estimate work together.
For a digital template, include any per-sale asset license. For a course with personal feedback, include the cost of that time. Use the monthly cost field for software and a monthly allowance for production work. Leaving these at zero means they are excluded from this estimate.
The price formula
Price = ((monthly target + platform subscription + other monthly costs) / expected sales + fixed fees per sale + other cost per sale) / (1 − total percentage fees)
Percentages are converted to decimals before calculation. The result rounds up to a cent so rounding the product price does not put the model below the target. Real payment processors may round each fee separately.
A worked example: 50 paid sales
Suppose the monthly target is $1,000, with 50 paid sales, no extra costs, and an illustrative processing rate of 2.9% + $0.30. On Payhip Free, the combined percentage is 7.9%. The calculation is ($1,000 / 50 + $0.30) / 0.921, giving a price floor of $22.05 after rounding up.
Payhip Plus includes its $29 subscription and has a smaller platform percentage. Under the same assumptions its floor is $21.96. This small difference is a useful reason to compare every plan rather than choosing from the monthly subscription alone.
Stress-test sales before committing
Repeat the estimate with half the sales count. Monthly costs are spread across fewer orders, so the required price can rise sharply. If you already have a product price, the sales goal calculator shows the order count needed instead.
Pricing questions
Can I use this for an ebook or a template?
Yes, for a single-price digital product. Enter the price actually paid after discounts, keep the currency consistent, and include your costs. A mixed catalog needs an average paid price or separate calculations.
Does a higher calculated price mean more income?
No. The calculation holds the sales count fixed. A price change may change demand, refunds or the type of buyer you attract. Compare a small number of plausible scenarios instead of treating the result as a sales forecast.
Which platform should I choose?
Check the selling workflow as well as fees. Use the Payhip vs systeme.io comparison, then test whether the platform supports your products, payments and delivery.
